Love it. Have downloaded a watercolour course on to iPad. Not sure bout it yet but have bought some paper and brushes so here goes. Have done some tulips.
Janie-- I hope you don't mind, I printed a copy of this. I don't intend to use it for profit or in any artwork, I'm just trying to collect pieces of work relevant to subject matter I'm interested in (in this case, plants) that I admire, so I can compare those works to my own and find ways to improve what I do. It's going into a binder and being analyzed.
Here, what I like so much is how you used subtle hints to imply the warmth and care in the relationship between the gardener and his/her plants with the watering can, the diverse mixture of pots, and the intimate, human space created by the wall. Also, there's a wonderful dynamism because of how the picture stops before it meets the rectangle, the way the pots and plants line up at a diagonal, and the diversity of textures and structures of plants.
I don't mind at all! What a great idea to do that. I think I'll follow suit and do the same because in a binder you can examine stuff and write notes on how you feel about it, how it works etc. Thanks, it's an excellent way to expand what we do. I shall print out your excellent analysis and put it with a copy of my garden painting in my sketch book where I keep a record of what I do. You pointed out some things I must have done instinctively but hadn't realised at all! Isn't that great? We all learn from each other all the time. Fantastic! If I can help in any way, let me know.
